Atlanta Braves sign Troy Glaus
As MLB trades start to heat up the Atlanta Braves sign Veteran 3rd basemen Troy Glaus on Wednesday December 23rd to a 1 year deal. Troy Glaus will play first base for the Braves in place of Laroche. Troy Glaus has only played at first base just 8 times during his career but he will be a good fit for the Braves. The Atlanta Braves did not try to re-sign first basemen Adam Laroche so Glaus will take over his position. Glaus has been trying to get himself ready at the new position this winter and he will be good to go come spring training if he passes the teams physical.
The Atlanta Braves seem to go through a lot of players at the first base position and Troy Glaus will be the 11th different opening day first basemen in the last 12 years for the Braves. Troy Glaus made 24 million dollars over the last two seasons but will take a significant pay-cut with the Braves who signed him to a one year contract worth about 2 million. Glaus barely played in 2009 because of a shoulder injury that he had surgery on in January 2009.
Troy Glaus is expected to be fully recovered from the shoulder injury and he has been working our hard at a strength training facility in New Jersey which is a good sign of things to come for the Braves in 2010. Glaus is one of the best power hitters in MLB when he is healthy so Braves fans can expect more pop in the line-up this season. The big 6’6 250 pound veteran has hit 304 home-runs over just 12 seasons and that includes two season with more than 40 homers. The Atlanta Braves sign Troy Glaus but the deal will not be finalized until after the holidays once he passes the Braves doctors physical.
