2010 Daytona 500 NASCAR Betting Odds & Daytona 500 Picks

Trading Paint, the auto racing blog brings in auto racing experts once a week to make picks for the Nascar Sprint Cup races and this week they gave their picks for the Daytona 500.

Jeff Bleiler of the Jackson Citizen Patriot is picking Tony Stewart, the favorite of most if not all the bookmakers. Why? According to Bleiler, Stewart has three Daytona victories, though none have been in the 500. Bleiler makes a further prediction as to the Sprint Cup championship: this year’s Daytona 500 winner won’t play much of a part in the overall championship. Steve Kaminski of The Grand Rapids Press tells Trading Paint that he thinks Kevin Harvick is going to win the Daytona 500 and Tony Stewart has no chance. Okey-dokey. BoDog.com has Harvick at +3000 so get it in before the gentlemen start their engines. As for Stewart, Kaminski reasons he’s 0 for 11 in Daytona 500 starts.

Mike Pryson of the Jackson Citizen Patriot picks Jimmie Johnson on the theory that Dale Earnhardt Jr. had such a crappy year in 2009. Pryson’s surprise pick of the Daytona 500 is that the new rule encouraging bump drafting and flat-out rivalry will cause the Daytona 500 to be full of crashes, in which case drawing a name from a hat will be as accurate as any bookmaker’s pick.

Troy Ruel of the Muskegon Chronicle is betting on favorite Tony Stewart +300, who has visited Victory Lane 14 times in the last decade at Daytona, but never in the opener. If Stewart avoids trouble, he’ll be hard to beat, according to Ruel. He’s not impressed, however, with Carl Edwards’ lead in 42 of the 43 laps in the Budweiser Shootout, since he’s averaged a 23rd place finish in the Daytona 500.
