Sunday's Free NFL Picks: Giants v. Saints

Sportsbook fans have watched New York and New Orleans maintain perfect records through five weeks. With the Saints coming off a bye and the Giants pasting Oakland 44-7 last week, both teams are eager to prove they’re the best in the NFL.

NFL Week 6 betting odds: Saints -3

Drew Brees kicked off the season with a bang, tossing nine touchdown passes in his first two starts. He hasn’t reached the end zone or surpassed 300 yards yet but, with New Orleans’ running game rolling along, he hasn’t really needed to. In fact, it’s probably a relief for the quarterback. Pierre Thomas, Mike Bell and Reggie Bush have shared the workload on the ground and produced very effective results. Thomas and Bell each have over 200 yards this season, while Bush has almost 150.

New York has a very balanced attack too. The rushing attack, spearheaded by Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw, is churning out 160 yards per game. Jacobs has looked a little slow this season, content to grind out less than four yards per carry. Bradshaw, however, is having a breakout season with two 100-yard rushing games and 6.5 yards per carry. The passing game is equally as dangerous, though Eli Manning is dealing with a foot injury that warrants watching.

The Giants still make their bread and butter on defense. The aggressive, attacking unit is tied for fourth in sacks this season. That kind of relentless pressure results in big plays and turnovers, which the Giants make in spades; New York has five interceptions, six fumble recoveries and two touchdowns this season. Given the depth and talent on the G-Men, those numbers shouldn’t fall off—if anything, they’ll get better.

New Orleans has made a surprising emergence on defense as well. The biggest improvement came off the field, as Gregg Williams was hired as defensive coordinator. Head Coach Sean Payton actually gave up some of his salary to bring in Williams and the move has paid off big time. Betting software shows the Saints lead the NFL in interceptions, have scored three touchdowns and are allowing just 16.5 points per game, an eight-point improvement over last season.

We might see these teams meet again down the road—in the NFC Championship Game. For now, the edge leans with New Orleans. The Saints are extremely tough to beat at home, and Manning’s foot injury is sure to cause problems given New Orleans’ emphasis on pressure and mistakes. Bet on New Orleans with your sports picks.
