2010 World Cup Teams Gearing Up
With the 2010 World Cup Teams gearing up and fine tuning their play, there were several games to give coaches some final looks at players as they decide their rosters. The final score of Mexico v. New Zealand was 2-0, but this has not left New Zealand without some sense of victory. The New Zealand coach feels that his team has improved dramatically through their play against Mexico and gave him a chance to take a look at some of the players that may be making the 2010 World Cup team. Wednesday night also saw the USA versus the Netherlands, which the US team lost 2-1.
The American team did not play very well and the game provided Coach Bob Bradley the opportunity to begin his final selections for the 2010 World Cup. There were some players that stood out and others whose performances against the Dutch were lacking. The US team prevented a shutout by a goal from Carlos Bocanegra. It was not anticipated that the US team would’ve upset, the Netherlands as they are currently ranked third and the United States is currently holding the 18th position in world play.
Coach Bradley will begin to make his decision on the 23 man roster, prior to some exhibition play against the Czech Republic and Turkey in May. They may be playing one more game in South Africa against Australia in order to get ready for the World Cup, which is less than 98 days away. US player, Stuart Holden will be out for at least six weeks with a broken leg, as he joins the list of injured players for the United States. There will be more friendly match ups in the coming weeks as 2010 World Cup teams are gearing up to perfect their game play.
