Jake Delhomme Fresh Start
Jake Delhomme Fresh Start
The Carolina Panthers released their quarterback Jake Delhomme today. This is the quarterback that led the Carolina Panthers to one Super Bowl and two NFC championship games. He leaves the Panthers with a 58-40 record, however last year the 35-year-old seemed to fall apart. He was given a pretty lucrative contract in 2009, even after the six turnovers he had during the loss to the Arizona Cardinals in the playoffs.
He started the 2009 season with a horrible loss in the season opener to Philadelphia. Jake Delhomme also had 18 interceptions throughout the season, which was a career-high and he did not even play all season due to an injury in the beginning of the year. The Panthers back up quarterback Matt Moore received lots of playing time last season and is expected to lead the team in 2010. The Panthers will have to pay Jake Delhomme the almost $13 million that is still due on his contract.
There may be several teams that might be interested in picking him up as a backup quarterback. Two teams that come to mind would be the Oakland Raiders and the Seattle Seahawks. Both of these teams may see the benefits of bringing in a seasoned quarterback to help jump start their offense. A team like Seattle may bring him on in order to give their backup quarterback Seneca Wallace some time to be better prepared to become their starter. If anything, we will probably see Jake Delhomme finding a home with a team that needs a quality backup quarterback.
