Nate Burleson a Detroit Lions WR
Nate Burleson a Detroit Lions WR
Free agent Nate Burleson was hoping he would be staying with the Seattle Seahawks for the upcoming season. Any thoughts of him staying with Seattle are now in the past as he has signed a five-year contract with the Detroit Lions. He will actually be playing for his former offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. The Lions ended this past season with a dismall record of 2-14, up from the 0-16 record in the 2008 season.
The inability to reach agreement is probably due to the fact that there has been a change in administration with the Seahawks. Originally, the president, Tim Ruskell had arranged an extension with Nate Burleson, the new management decided not to continue with those negotiations. Over the past two months either side was not able to come to any terms for a renegotiated contract. The Seahawks were just not willing to pay what Nate Burleson thought he was worth.
The five year contract with the Detroit Lions, gives him a guarantee of getting at least $11 million. He has been with Seattle for the past four seasons and returned last year after having torn a ligament in his knee. This wide receiver caught 63 passes last year and would have broken his personal record except he had an injury and he missed the final three games. He did average 12.9 yards last season, and he had 15 touchdown passes during his stay in Seattle. It did not take long for Detroit to pick him up as just two hours had passed during the free agency draft before Nate Burleson had a deal with the Lions.
