Jake Delhomme Press Conference
Jake Delhomme Press Conference
The Jake Delhomme press conference was an extremely emotional event for him. When he arrived to the interview, he was sporting sunglasses, and his eyes were extremely red. He did have the ability to make a joke that his allergies were acting up. The quarterback for the Carolina Panthers stated that he was “blindsided” that he had been released from this team. He did say that he felt that his time in the NFL was not over.
The coach and the general manager of the team also shed tears during another Jake Delhomme press conference, which was held earlier in the day. Delhomme stated that he felt his time with the Panthers had been very successful and decided that six of his seven years for the team had been wonderful. The Panthers will still have to pay him the $12.5 million remainder of his contract. Jake Delhomme has led the Panthers to the Super Bowl, as well as taking the team to two championship games.
He thought that when he received a telephone call yesterday that they were going to ask him to be the backup quarterback for the Panthers for the upcoming season. He was certainly quite surprised to learn that he had been released. Part of the decision to release him was the way in which he played last season. The Panthers were 4-7; Delhomme had a career high of 18 interceptions, as well as numerous fumbles. After breaking a finger on his throwing hand, he was replaced by Matt Moore who brought the team to an 8-8 record. During the Jake Delhomme press conference, he stated that his career is not over and that he will begin looking for other teams to pick him up.
