Artis Hicks Signs With Washington
Artis Hicks has agreed to a three year contract with the Washington Redskins on Saturday, March 6th 2010. The tackle and guard will bring the much needed help to the Redskin’s offensive line. Hicks comes from the Minnesota Vikings where he has spent the past four years. The deal will give Hicks up to $9 million and will be guaranteed $3 million.
Washington is looking to Artis Hicks to provide some experience as well as being able to play both tackle and guard positions. The Vikings used him as a back up for both positions. It is expected that Hicks will be utilized for the right guard position for the Redskins. Although he could potentially be used at either position.
Last year, Washington had a lot of difficulty at the right guard position. They lost their right guard, Randy Thomas, after he injured his triceps and did not play for the remainder of the season. They utilized Chad Rinehart at the position, but he failed to consistently deliver on the run block. Enter Will Montgomery, who then lost the starting position back to Rinehart, however Rinehart broke his leg in the Dallas game. With the revolving door of the right guard position, Artis Hicks will be able to perhaps shore up this weak position on the offensive line for Washington.
