During the Ben Roethlisberger press conference yesterday, police said that they were going to be interviewing the Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback regarding the allegations of the sexual assault that have been filed by a 20 year old female Georgia student. The police will also be seeking a DNA sample from the two-time Super Bowl winner. The police chief of Milledgeville, Georgia, Woodrow W. Blue, Jr. stated that Roethlisberger and his attorney have been cooperating and that they will be interviewing Ben and seven other witnesses throughout the week.
Once the Ben Roethlisberger press conference was completed, his new high profile attorney, Edward Garland, issued a brief statement saying that there was no criminal activity and that Ben was not involved in a sexual assault. They also believe that after the investigation is completed, that no criminal charges would be filed. The 20-year-old woman who attends Georgia College & State University, filed a report that Roethlisberger had sexually assaulted her early hours of Friday at a nightclub that is located near the campus.
The police are not giving out any details of the interview with the woman but they did state that she has hired an attorney. She was treated at a local hospital but was released. The Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback has a home in the surrounding area that he uses for vacationing. Now that the Ben Roethlisberger press conference is over, it will be days before the police determine if they have enough evidence to charge him. It is also speculated that if they are asking for a DNA sample that it could mean that there is something they can compare it to. His attorney, Edward Garland is not new to high profile cases as he represented Ray Lewis of the Baltimore Ravens, who had been accused of double murder in 2000. More information should become available once all of the interviews are concluded.
