The Ohio State basketball game against Michigan today came down to the last 2.2 seconds. The 35 foot shot by Evan Turner prevented the Ohio State team from being upset from their rival during the quarterfinal game of the Big Ten tournament. Michigan was trailing by 13 points, with only 10 minutes and 9 seconds left in the game. They were able to take the lead when Manny Harris scored a two point jump shot leaving 2.2 seconds to go in the game.
A timeout was called and then David Lighty put the ball into play directly to Turner. Turner, who has been named the Big Ten player of the year went about 10 feet over the half-court line and shot it over the hands of Stu Douglass. The officials did take a look at the replay before they ruled it was a good shot. Ohio State will now go to the semi final game on Saturday, where they will play Illinois. Illinois beat Wisconsin during the final minutes of their game earlier today.
The Ohio State team was led by Turner, who had 18 points with Lighty and William Buford each scoring 15 points. Michigan’s Manny Harris scored 22 points in the second half, giving the Michigan team its ability to stage a comeback. Ohio State is looking to improve their position in the upcoming NCAA tournament, while Michigan will now be hoping that they receive an invitation to the NIT tournament. Tonight’s matchup will have Minnesota playing Michigan State and Purdue playing Northwestern.
