Selection Sunday 2010
Selection Sunday 2010
Selection Sunday 2010 is over and the 65 teams have been seeded and are ready to start March Madness. The road to the final Sweet 16 and the final four has begun. Some of the teams that did not make it were due to not doing well within their own conference tournaments. The overall number one seed went to Kansas that was a unanimous decision. Kentucky, Duke and Syracuse also received the other number one seeds. To round out the top 10 is Ohio State in fifth with West Virginia, Kansas State, New Mexico, Villanova and Purdue following.
Selection Sunday 2010 also saw teams such as Florida, making it while Mississippi State will have to settle for a NIT Tournament bid. Virginia Tech is another team that also did not make the final cut. They may feel somewhat slighted as Wake Forest did make the selection. Both teams fell early in the ACC Tournament, but Virginia Tech had an overall better record. Mississippi State thought they were good to be able to get into the tournament since they beat Florida, as well as Vanderbilt. They even took Kentucky down to the last seconds even though they lost in overtime.
Now that Selection Sunday 2010 is over, we can turn our attention to the tournament itself. Time will tell if teams such as St. Mary’s will be able to make a run, or a mid-level team like Murray State with there are 30 wins in the regular season, can make a play for the Sweet 16. Probably not, but it is fun to consider all of the possibilities. The top four seeded teams will have to be on the lookout for West Virginia, who won the Big East Tournament, as well as Georgetown and Maryland, both could be a force to reckon with. Make sure you print out your brackets and start the countdown to March Madness.
