Canadian Doctor Arrested: Tiger Woods and A-Rod

What do Tiger Woods and Alex Rodriquez have in common?  Apparently they have used a Canadian physician that has been arrested and charged with smuggling, unlawful distribution of human growth hormone and conspiracy to lie to federal agents. Obviously this looks bad for both Woods and A-Rod. Never mind how it may affect Dr. Anthony Galea of Toronto.

He is a former doctor for the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts.  He was made famous for using a blood spinning technique. The blood spinning is known as platelet-rich plasma therapy. One other issue facing Dr. Galea is that he is not licensed to practice in the states.

In addition to the other charges, he has been accused of trying to use an unapproved drug known as actovegin.  Both platelet-rich plasma therapy and the drug actovegin are used to speed the healing process. Three unidentified NFL players were listed in the affidavit as witnesses including one who alleges he received HGH from Galea. Other than these two techniques, Dr. Galea was known for administering ultrasounds, intravenous drips and other injection cocktails into the site of muscle tears.
