Jesse Biddle: Philadelphia Phillies MLB Draft Pick
The MLB draft is well underway and with the Yankee’s snatching up a high school switch hitting shortstop in the first round, the Phillies decided to give it a hand. Jesse Biddle isn’t a shortstop but his left arm was definitely showcase worthy. Biddle is 6’5″ and 225 pounds. He hails from Germantown Friends School and impressed the Phillies in an private workout last Wednesday.
The Citizens Bank Park was basically empty when Jesse Biddle went to work. He was there for one thing, to show case his talent. He did exactly what he has been doing the last couple of years in high school; impressing everyone with his arm. It certainly didn’t hurt anything that the Phillies went into the draft looking for left-handed pitchers, catchers and infielders.
Jesse Biddle impressed the big guys and on Monday he was chosen by Philadelphia in the first round as the 27th overall pick. Biddle hurled a nice looking 94 mph fastball and then showed the Phillies his curveball, slider and changeup. For the Phillies scouts, they were sold and it was a matter of waiting for their turn to roll around so they could make their pick. Biddle has already committed to play at the University of Oregon but the Phillies believe they can lure him out of that.
