The Plain Dealer: Lebron Breaks Cleveland’s Heart
The Plain Dealer: Lebron Breaks Cleveland’s Heart
The headlines around the world today are filled with multiple stories of shock and horror that have nothing to do with sports. The headlines surrounding Lebron James should be filled with glamour and excitement. The game isn’t always fun, but no one seems to be faulting Tom Izzo for not wanting to go to Cleveland, so why act so childish about Lebron’s decision to leave? The Cleveland Plain Dealer is one of the top 20 papers being printed in the United States right now and so far, they are walking a fine line between a classy goodbye and a scorned lover.
The reminder that basketball is just a game is hard when players like Lebron, Shaq and Kobe see large numbers showing up in their bank accounts. History shows that the NBA almost always have a golden child. Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, and Lebron James are household names, regardless of whether we like it or not. For now, Lebron James is simply the man of the moment. Cleveland Ohio’s Plain Dealer can make themselves look really good if they continue to focus on the memories Lebron has offered them instead of stooping to the level of Dan Gilbert.
In order to put the situation in perspective, remember that this childhood game is still a game but by the time the players reach the NBA, this game is a business. Nothing good can come from bashing Lebron for his decision. Burning his jersey was simply one of the most ridiculous sights sports fans have ever seen. Hopefully in Cleveland Ohio, the Plain Dealer can help the fans mend their broken hearts.
