George Steinbrenner: An All Star Day Death
Major League Baseball has been the fortunate receiver of many great players over the years. The managers and owners alike have played huge roles in the lives of players and fans alike. One owner, the New York Yankees owner, who was just celebrated his birthday on July 4th has lost his life this morning. George turned 80 on July 4th but has died this morning from a massive heart attack.
It’s been merely days since the media nicknamed him the true Yankee Doodle Dandy. This man is known throughout all of baseball as an icon. Almost everyone had a different opinion but no one will argue that he has been the face of baseball for many years. For those who had parted ways with George Steinbrenner under bad terms, the reconciliations made on or before his birthday loom really large right now.
Naturally, today is the MLB All Star game day and the world of baseball is forced to mourn the loss of this great owner. He was well known for his high expectations and his willingness to let go of those who he didn’t feel fit well into his organization. The fact that many players and managers left the Yankees only to return time and time again is a testament to the kind of organization the Yankees have. To replace George Steinbrenner will be impossible but finding players, coaches and managers who had love/hate relationships is simple, those people are everywhere.
