Today was suppose to be one of the most fun days in the world of major league baseball. Instead, for the second time in three days, Yankees fans are left to mourn instead of celebrate. On Sunday, the Yankees lost the Voice of God in Bob Sheppard. Along with that loss, the Yankees now mourn with the family as a massive heart attack has the news full of stories headlining with Steinbrenner Dead.
Derek Jeter has been very verbal about his relationship with Sheppard and there is no doubt that many huge baseball legends feel the same. Now, with the passing of George, the Yankees have lost the man known as the Yankee Doodle Dandy. Born on July 4th and celebrating his 80th birthday not even two weeks ago, players are shocked. But, today, the day of the 2010 MLB All Star game would have been a great day in history had the news coming out of Tampa that Yankees owner Steinbrenner dead as of this morning.
George was quickly nicknamed the Boss and one of the most powerful and wealthy figures in the US. He has owned the Yankees since 1973. Among his accomplishments are his position as the Vice President of the US Olympic Committee from 1989-1996 and has owned six horses that ran in the Kentucky Derby. The shock of the news regarding Steinbrenner dead has rocked the sports community in every way.
