World Series: Dizzy Dean Style
World Series: Dizzy Dean Style
This upcoming weekend in Ringgold, Georgia, a large group of seven-year-olds will gather for one reason. Forty-nine teams made up of nothing but seven-year-old boys will descend on the baseball fields in search of one prize. This can mean only one thing if you are a Dizzy Dean Baseball fan. The Seven-Year-Old World Series is one day away.
On Thursday, the teams will file into Ringgold, coaches will take part in credential meetings, draw for opponents in pool play and take part of a team dinner with their all star players. Team pictures and a night of pin training will conclude and these little guys will head to bed with nothing but baseballs dancing in their head. Nothing compares, regardless of age, to stepping up to home plate while the public address announcer alerts the fans of your presence. When you are seven, playing in the World Series could be the most memorable event of a lifetime.
The tournament kicks off on Friday morning with a bit of controversy. After all, what sporting event is complete without a bit of confusion? None of the players hitting the field for this tournament will be wielding the Easton Stealth bat that many have leaned on heavily all season. For the next eight days in Ringgold, Georgia, team after team will hit the field for what could be the best World Series of their life.
