Kyle Parker: Football or Baseball
The Clemson Tiger’s quarterback threw 20 touchdowns as a freshman last year. Then, last month, he managed to make it as a first round draft in the MLB draft. That leaves the kid in a precarious situation, stay in school and continue to play football, or take the money from the Rockies and run with it. Kyle Parker happens to be the talented athlete with such troubles.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney had already made plans to turn to redshirt freshman Tajh Boyd if he lost his starting quarterback. In the meantime, this future star has until August 15th to make a final decision. As of right now, he is asking for a $3 million signing bonus to make leaving college worth the move. The only other option for the kid is to try to play baseball in the summer and football in the fall. That’s not a likely scenario even for a player as talented as Kyle Parker.
Hopefully he makes a decision sooner than later so that the various teams can go ahead and make arrangements to build a team with or without him. The NCAA touts this guy as the first athlete in Division I to throw 20 touchdown passes and hit 20 home runs. Although the final deadline is mid-August, the athlete purposed to the media a self-imposed deadline of July 20, 2010. If Kyle Parker has indeed made a decision based on his own deadline, it appears he will be heading to Clemson to play more football but only time will tell as an official statement has yet to be released.
