Brandon Phillips Comments Spark MLB Brawl
Brandon Phillips Comments Spark MLB Brawl
Grown men playing a child’s game need to learn to behave like grown men instead of children. That’s probably the most overused cliche’ in professional sports. But, the truth is sometimes not an easy pill to swallow but it remains the truth regardless. If Brandon Phillips comments were the reason for the brawl last night between the Cards and the Reds, then these are apparently not grown men playing a game after all.
The Reds second baseman was not nice when he commented on how much he disliked the cards. He took the child’s game to a different level by resorting to name calling and and demeaning the Cards team. However, he is a grown man and the people he was dismissing were also adults. Brandon Phillips comments probably did make his love pat or his taunting of the Cards catcher seem even worse than before, but it’s not likely that he will try that route again.
The reason for the brawl can be blamed on what one of the Reds said about the Cardinals team. But, the other cliche’ that comes to mind is “sticks and stones may break my bones….” you know the rest I’m sure. With that little saying that comes straight from the playgrounds of yore, a lesson was taught and hopefully learned. Brandon Phillips comments weren’t hurting anyone but once he reached out and touched the Cards catcher, he changed the rules of the game.
