2011 Kentucky Football Predictions, Picks & Odds
As you think about your 2011 Kentucky football predictions, what should you make of the Wildcats squad? Head coach Joker Phillips has one full season under his belt, and he saw some mixed results in Lexington from his team. The school is a basketball school first of course, but he wants to change that status, at least a tiny bit if he can. So will he get that job done in year two, and how will the season end as you make preseason 2011 college football predictions for Kentucky and the rest of the SEC teams?

Last season, the team finished 6-7, so as mentioned, there were some mixed results. On the positive end of things, they made it to a bowl game. They also scored a huge upset over a hot South Carolina team, which gave the team a lot of hope and pride. The bad news was that it was still a losing season when all was said and done. So that leaves a lot of question marks heading into year two of the Phillips era, and a lot of question marks for your 2011 Kentucky football predictions for the team.
The key for the team will be turning some of those close games that ended in losses into close games that ended as wins. For example, they lost to Ole Miss by a touchdown, Auburn by three points and Mississippi State by a touchdown. That’s three games against three conference opponents, one of whom went on to win the national title, that were decided by seven or less points. That means there could be some major improvements for the team and a quick turnaround of sorts if they can get the edge in those tough, close calls.
Whether or not they will get that job done though is another story altogether as you consider 2011 college football predictions. This is the SEC after all, and there are the traditional power teams and then there is everyone else. All roads and schedules are tough in this conference, and it’s especially trying for a middle of the road team that is trying to take that next leap forward.
As it stands, 2011 Kentucky football predictions will have to evaluate a schedule that includes games against Florida, LSU, South Carolina, Mississippi State and some other middle of the road SEC rivals like Georgia and Tennessee, both of whom are looking to make their own leap towards the head of the pack, and probably have more talent at hand to do just that.
That’s going to be a real challenge then, and you have to look at a three week stretch when the team plays Florida, LSU and South Carolina back to back to back, the last two of which are road games. Kentucky really needs to head into that stretch 3-0 if they want to make forward strides this season, or else they could be starting at a huge hole by the middle of October.
All 2011 college football predictions are tough for the SEC teams, and Kentucky is no different. They can win some close games and make forward progress, or they can be undone by that brutal stretch of challenging conference games, and it could go either way.
