Week 2 NFL Predictions, Picks & Odds

Posted by Vernon Croy

The first week of the season was a fantastic one. There were some really exciting games, lots of great plays, big upsets, great individual performances and much more. There’s a full slate of games on the schedule for week 2, and right here you’ll find a complete collection of quick week 2 NFL predictions.

Week 2 NFL Predictions, Picks & Odds

At New Orleans -6.5 Chicago

Chicago showed that everyone has overlooked them a bit too much this year, as they pummeled Atlanta in week 1, while New Orleans showed themselves to be a dangerous, high scoring team even in defeat. New Orleans can’t start the season in an 0-2 hole, and will have a raucous home crowd in their favor, however 6.5 points might be a bit high considering how Chicago looked in week 1.

At Detroit -7.5 Kansas City

Detroit hasn’t been a 7.5 favorite in too many games over the past five years. The Chiefs looked awful in week 1, and they’re heading on the road here against a team that is young, hungry and confident, and eager to keep on winning. The Lions will definitely have the edge in this game, and if both teams keep up their week 1 form, then they are going to end up winning big here.

At NY Jets -10.5 Jacksonville

Both teams escaped with week 1 victories in games which easily could have gone the other way. The Jets will be looking to take advantage of home field for the second straight game to start the year, but 10.5 points seems very wide for a Jaguars team with the dangerous Maurice Jones-Drew in the backfield. Look for the Jets to win but for the Jaguars to keep it close.

At Buffalo -3.5 Oakland

The Bills looked very strong in the first week of the season, and both the Raiders and the Bills are hoping to have solid 2011 campaigns. The Raiders have a short week thanks to their Monday nighter in week 1, and they have to travel all the way to the east coast. It will be too much for them to overcome even if they are a more complete team, so the Bills should win this match.

At Washington -4.5 Arizona

There a lot of intriguing matchups to consider as you look at the Redskins-Cardinals game with your week 2 NFL predictions. Former Cardinals running back Tim Hightower will want to make a statement against the club that didn’t value him much, and the Redskins will be eager to jump to a 2-0 record and ride some positive momentum. Kevin Kolb can put up a lot of points though and is familiar with the Redskins, so this one could go either way.

Baltimore -5.5 At Tennessee

Considering how dominant the Ravens looked in the first week of the season, even against the Pittsburgh Steelers, this is a very small margin or spread for this game. Look for the Ravens to travel to Tennessee and easily handle their business against the Titans, covering the spread by a wide margin en route to a 2-0 record after the first two weeks.

At Pittsburgh -14.5 Seattle

Usually a team that gets crushed in week 1 wouldn’t be a two touchdown favorite with week 2 NFL predictions. However, the Steelers are viewed as a Super Bowl threat that got a big kick in the butt and now will be looking for revenge against everyone else. The Steelers will win and look good in the process, and could definitely end up covering the full 14.5 point margin.

Green Bay -10.5 At Carolina

Being a 10.5 point favorite on the road is what happens when you’re the defending Super Bowl champions, coming off a great week 1 victory and playing a bad team with a rookie quarterback. Cam Newton has already shown he can play though, and that he can put some points on the board. The Panthers won’t be able to stop Aaron Rodgers and company though, so the Packers will win and cover the spread too.

At Minnesota -3 Tampa Bay

Both teams are looking for their first victory of the year. Tampa Bay is probably the better team, but the Vikings will be playing at home, and looking to take advantage of a young squad who perhaps has had its confidence shaken up. This game could definitely go in either direction, but the Vikings might be the smart pick here.

Cleveland -2.5 At Indianapolis

Even though the Colts got destroyed in week 1 and are without Peyton Manning, you still have to like them at home against a Browns team which isn’t as good. It will technically be an upset win, but the Colts should be favored.

Dallas -3 At San Francisco

After a bad last second loss to the Jets, the Cowboys will really need to get a win so they don’t fall into a hole like they did last season. The 49ers though are revved up after week 1 and aren’t going to roll over, so this is a tough one to call with your week 2 NFL predictions. The Cowboys might have the edge though.

Houston -3 At Miami

The Texans looked great in dismantling the Colts. Now they actually believe this is the year they will take the next step and make the postseason, so they are going to play like it against Miami and keep up their winning ways.

At New England -6.5 San Diego

These are two very good teams and they usually play one another very tough in what has become a good rivalry. The Patriots might win the game, but 6.5 points seems wide for a team as strong as San Diego, and a team which can score as many points as they can.

At Denver -6 Cincinnati

The Broncos probably shouldn’t be 6 point favorites over anybody. Cincinnati looked good in their debut, and their rookies played strong. If they keep it up in week 2, then the game will at least be close and they’ll beat the spread even if it’s a losing effort.

Philadelphia -2.5 At Atlanta

Michael Vick returns to Philadelphia. The Falcons look to rebound from a dismal week 1 showing. There’s a lot to consider in this game, and all of the emotion can really take any prediction and turn it upside down. Whoever you pick in this one it’s hard to believe it will be a safe choice.

At NY Giants -6 St. Louis

Both of these teams are banged up already, and both are without key players. The Giants can’t afford to start 0-2 in the NFC East, and they will be playing their first game in their new stadium. The G-Men will win and cover the spread against the upstart Rams and their former coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo.
