2009 Heisman Trophy Winner – Mark Ingram

The Heisman winner will be announced this Saturday at 5 P.M. EST in New York City but my money is on on Mark Ingram since he is a huge difference maker and without him Alabama would not be in the BCS Title game. As far as free sports picks go Mark Ingram is the biggest play-maker in college football and he would excel on any team at any level unlike the other Heisman candidates. Colt McCoy is good but he is highly over-rated because you could plug several other Quarterbacks in that Longhorns offense and they would also put up big numbers.

The SEC is by far the superior conference so for Mark Ingram to put up the kind of numbers he did this season you have to bet on him for your 2009 Heisman winner. Toby Gerhart has had a spectacular season for the Cardinal but then the strength of schedule does not come close to the caliber of teams that the Alabama Crimson Tide has had to face this season. Gerhart would not be able to compete in the SEC like he has done in the PAC-10 so he is out of the 2009 Heisman race.

Mark Ingram did win the Heisman with his performance against a stingy Florida Gators defense as he ran for 113 yards on 28 carries. Ingram averaged 4 yards per rush in that SEC Championship game against Florida but he also caught the ball twice for 76 yards. Mark Ingram is a play-maker and he can carry any team on his shoulders whether he was on the Crimson Tide or the Buffalo Bulls it would not matter because he would still shine regardless of the talent around him.
