There are a lot of teams on upset watch here in week 8 of the 2012 NFL season. And all told, there are some very intriguing betting lines and a lot of action you may want to get in on for yourself. Here’s a look at the top 5 week 8 NFL picks against the spread.
At Philadelphia -2.5 Atlanta
Michael Vick and the Eagles have been an up and down team this season, and it starts with Vick himself and all the turnovers the offense has been giving up. Meanwhile, Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons are looking like a real Super Bowl threat. You have to like Atlanta as an underdog here. Take them to pull off the upset win. Even if the Eagles win, they tend to win by just a point or two anyway, so Atlanta is a great choice.
NY Giants -1 At Dallas
Since the new Cowboys Stadium opened up, the Giants have been fantastic on the road there, including winning the very first regular season game in the new home of Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. Right now, New York is riding high with a nice winning streak, while Dallas has been struggling a bit. Dallas won their game to open the year, but the Giants even the score here and pick up a nice road win to widen their lead in the NFC East to a comfortable margin midway through the season.
At Denver -6 New Orleans
Two Super Bowl winning quarterbacks, and quarterbacks who played against each other in the Super Bowl, square off in primetime on Sunday night. Peyton Manning has been playing excellently and the Denver Broncos are looking like a contender. Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints still have a lot of ground to make up for right now, and they will be playing with that extra desperation and motivation. Take the Saints to beat the spread and keep it close, and if you’re feeling like an upset, take them to win too.
San Diego -3 At Cleveland
The lowly Cleveland Browns could actually have a better record than they do, but they can’t find ways to win tight games. The Chargers actually started off the season well, but are now reeling after blowing a huge lead to the Denver Broncos in a loss. San Diego has had a week to simmer thanks to their bye, and they take out their pent up frustrations against Cleveland, winning big and comfortably covering the spread.
At Pittsburgh -5 Washington
The Steelers simply have not looked up to their usual standards so far this season. From injuries to poor performance to old age, there’s a lot going wrong for them right now. Meanwhile, RGIII has met and exceeded all early expectations, and gives the Redskins a chance to win any game that they’re playing. The Skins keep this one close and beat the spread, and RGIII puts the Steelers at risk of an embarrassing home loss.
