Two fierce NFC East rivals square off against one another on Sunday night this week, as the Philadelphia Eagles travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys. Boy, this game isn’t what you thought it would have been if you checked the schedule at the start of the season? The Eagles are in terrible shape, and the Cowboys are also on the outside looking in of the playoff picture. Here’s a rundown of what to expect with the Eagles vs. the Cowboys on Sunday night along with the picks, predictions & odds for the game.
Where do you start with these two teams? The Eagles are in the worst streak, by far, in the entire tenure of Andy Reid. It’s a stretch that seems likely to end that tenure and leave Reid out of a gig by the end of the year. A once 3-1 record has capitulated into seven straight losses and a 3-8 record.
Michael Vick has been on the sidelines, and his replacement hasn’t been getting the job done. It’s not all the fault of the quarterback though. They’ve been committing turnovers, showing a lack of a real will or desire to win, giving up big plays, and more. it’s ugly in Philadelphia right now.
In some ways, it’s even more maddening down in Dallas, where the team continue to shows flashes, although they come in the form of too little too late almost comebacks, or big wins followed by bad losses. They’re at 5-6 right now, which leaves them out of the playoffs for the time being, but at least within striking distance.
If they can put together a winning streak, they’ll find themselves in the mix for a wild card berth before all is said and done. But that’s a big if, especially for a team with a -20 scoring differential (the Eagles, however, are much worse, with a -98 points differential, 4th worst in the league). It’s easy to pile up the blame on Tony Romo, but his weapons have been inconsistent, he hasn’t been protected, and his defense has been porous, all very substantial problems.
Moving ahead with our official predictions & odds, and Dallas is a 10 point favorite in the match. You can take Dallas at -475, and Philadelphia at +375 in a straight pick. The over/under for the combined points total of the game is at 43 points, on the lower end of the scale.
Neither team is looking good right now, although for Dallas, the trouble seems to be inconsistency and underperformance, while for Philadelphia, the trouble is a complete meltdown that seems to be heading into the realm of a major shakeup for the organization. Dallas will grab the win over the rival here, but with their turnovers, penalties and other miscues, the point spread is far too wide against a team they’re always in a dog fight with, no pun intended, Mr. Vick. Take the Eagles to beat the spread, and the Cowboys to win.
