NFL Schedule Week 1

Posted by Joe Gallo

NFL Schedule Week 1

The chaos of the NBA free agency ran right into the frenzy of the NFL free agency. The talk of retirement by one of the NFL’s most retired players of yet just floated around the NFL with ease. Yes, Brett Favre is back and yes, players retired after just one season in the NFL. In the meantime, the NFL schedule week 1 will get underway tonight with Favre and the Vikings head to New Orleans to face the defending Super Bowl Champions.

Many analyst predict that the winner of the game tonight could be a definitely look at the team to head to the Super Bowl months from now.  The Saints have dealt with Reggie Bush being stripped of his Heisman trophy that he won years ago and the Saints have managed to add veteran linebacker Danny Clark to their already tough looking line. Darren Sharper is still with the Saints too so don’t get too excited. The NFL schedule week 1 definitely has the potential to kick start off tonight with a bang.

Minnesota heads into tonight’s game with the possibility of Cedric Griffin playing in New Orleans. Moreover, the coaching staff and Adrian Peterson have spent an inordinate about of time studying film as it relates to fumbles and turnovers which have plagued them. The first game gets underway tonight in the Superdome at 8 PM ET. That will kick the NFL schedule week 1 into action and the weekend is nothing but pigskins a flying.

Toney vs Couture Fight Video

Posted by Sean O'Connor

Toney vs Couture Fight Video

MMA fans are raising their hands in victory but boxing fans are not prepared to go away that easily. Toney hit the ring last night with nine months of ground training. The short fight last night should be an eye opener for those fighters who think they can just jump from one type of fighting to the other. Watch the Toney vs Couture Fight Video and then decide for yourself if Toney ever had a chance.

In the meantime, fans of the MMA who hope to see their favorite boxer in the cage soon should remember that the boxer is going to need significant training. Making the move from one way of fighting to another is not as simple as it seems. Boxers will need to watch the MMA fighters and find a trainer to teach how to defend against the various submission holds. Watching Toney vs Couture Fight Video makes it clear that without a doubt, the athletes within the sports are not interchangeable.

Although Toney entered the cage looking confident and ready, the crowd didn’t appear to care for him at all. In the meantime, Couture made his way to the cage sporting a new tattoo. That’s the difference in true MMA fans and fans of fighting in general, the MMA fans noticed the tattoo almost immediately. Watching Toney vs Couture Fight Video, the true diehard fans aren’t hard to spot, nor is the clear winning.

Tommy John Surgery: Stephen Strasburg

Posted by Joe Gallo

Tommy John Surgery: Stephen Strasburg

After watching the Little League World Series this summer, the careful monitoring of the youngsters pitching is more than admirable. Even though Stephen Strasburg hasn’t been abused, the expectations for him are just so much. A majority of the pitchers who have this surgery overcome it, ten of the pitchers in the All Star came this year had been under the knife for this same reason. The question is, even with Tommy John Surgery, will Stephen Strasburg be ready to pitch again?

In the meantime, the guys pitching behind him for the Nationals have to understand the problems with being pushed too hard. Analysts indicate that watching Strasburg when he first entered the leagues, pitching coaches alerted Strasberg and others that he was susceptible to problems simply due to his delivery. However, his delivery has been extremely successful and this surgery shouldn’t slow him down. Strasberg is getting a second opinion prior to having the Tommy John Surgery but almost everyone agrees that’s where he is headed.

The major leagues has 43 active pitchers that have gone through this same surgery and are still pitching. Red Sox trainer Mike Reinold indicated that the success rate for this surgery was upward of 85 to 92 percent for elite pitchers. Strasburg is looking at approximately 12 months of recovery time from start to finish, so expecting to see him in April may just be asking a little bit too much. Strasburg is definitely an elite pitcher and its difficult to find players of his talent who have had Tommy John Surgery to gauge his possible recovery time by is not that easy either.

Little League World Series: Washington’s Robbie Wilson

Posted by Jerri Ann

Little League World Series: Washington’s Robbie Wilson

If you aren’t familiar with exactly how hard these kids play baseball, you can still catch some great games on various networks. The story of the 2010 World Series though goes to Washington who was playing Connecticut last night. Washington had the lead 9-5, 2 outs in the bottom of the last inning and bases loaded. Washington also had their ace on the mound in the Little League World Series.

The score was in their favor but  Washington had one problem. The only problem was the kid who was pitching  the ball upwards of 70 mph, had reached his pitch count. One more pitch by this kid and he wouldn’t be eligible for the championship series tonight even if they did win. Washington’s coach went to the mound to make a big decision in this Little League World Series game.

The coach for Washington met with several players trying to decide who could pitch and still be available the next day. The kid playing in centerfield is quickly getting a lot of attention. He actually pitched his last inning sometime well before the regional tournaments even started. He got the nod from the head coach, ran to the mound, threw a few warm-up pitches and with a ground ball force out put in play, Robbie became this year’s Little League World Series hero.

NFL Odds: 49ers-Colts & Broncos-Bengals Predictions

NFL Odds: 49ers-Colts & Broncos-Bengals Predictions

Football fans have to be sitting back in their lazy chairs just watching and waiting as the preseason games have started to roll through. One preseason game last weekend at the NFL Hall of Fame between the Cowboys and the Bengals left big time fans begging for more. Thursday night a host of games kicked off, leading into Friday night and then again on Saturday. The NFL football odds for the 49ers-Colts & Broncos-Bengals predictions have been published  but make sure to check the experts before making your wagers.

A few problems plaguing the 49ers include the late loss of Glen Coffee and Ketnwan Balmer. While neither of these guys were superstars for the 49ers, experience is just tough to replace. Therefore, the 49ers have a long road ahead of them but it certainly doesn’t mean anyone should count them out. The NFL football odds for the 49ers–Colts and the Broncos-Benglas predictions give you a line that favors Indianapolis right now.

The other big matchup puts Denver against Cincinatti. The focus manages to surround Tim Tebow for the Broncos who most likely won’t play at all. For the Bengals, two big names in Terrell /Owens and Chad Ochocinco will probably manage to steal the show. This duo will probably not play a lot simply to the fact that an injury now, in a preseason game could be career ending, leaving teams in a world of hurt. The NFL football odds for 49ers-Colts & Broncos-Bengals predictions have the Bengals as a favorite barring any injuries.

Baseball: Little Leagues vs Big Leagues

Posted by Jerri Ann

Baseball: Little Leagues vs Big Leagues

While the guys in the big leagues are watching to see what color uniform they will be wearing tomorrow, the little guys are packing up their gear. Some of these youngsters are only temporarily storing the gear and will hit the field again in a couple of weeks. Fall leagues and travel leagues are the norm these days and that makes for baseball year round. These are not the Little Leagues of yore though.

The Dizzy Dean World Series have all finished up and the winners crowned. Some of the winners more obvious than others but either way, a nice set of trophies went home with a lot of little guys in the last few weeks. Moreover, at least one kid in each age group went home with a Most Valuable Trophy and it was not too shabby either. These are the Little Leagues the guys in the Big Leagues are built upon.

Many fans are preparing to cheer their big league teams into the fall and hoping to help guide them into the playoffs. The Yankees have become a staple when it comes to the fall classic and for now, that seems to be the case for this year as well. Either way, if you are a pitcher, a catcher, a manager or a fan, there is a lot of baseball left in the Major Leagues so don’t quit watching just yet. The youngsters jumping into the fall schedule in the Little Leagues deserve a little round of applause too.

Babe Ruth Baseball: Youth Leagues

Posted by Joe Gallo

Many stories surrounding the various World Series events in the last month have garnered some attention and now it’s time for another league to show case their own guys. When leagues are run correctly and the adults can maintain some form of maturity, the children have a great time on the field. That is definitely the key to making a good league better, unfortunately a lot of adults just don’t seem to understand. The 15-year-old team from Appleton are involved in the Babe Ruth tournament West Virginia starting Saturday.

The trip to Virginia for these families runs about 13 hours via bus so the players and families have plenty of time to get to know one another. That is if they haven’t already learned everything about one another over the course of a long season. Either way, the players are excited and the parents are busy cheering their team to victory. The Appleton Babe Ruth baseball team heads into the tournament with a 25-3 record.

A big win over Eau Claire was the win that put them into the West Virginia tournament. Many of the families cite camaraderie as one of the most important aspects of their team. The players have to bond and mesh to make the team work but so do the parents. Parents can make or break a really good team so if you are in the West Virginia area on Saturday, try to catch at least one game of the Babe Ruth league and see for yourself the benefits of team sports.

Snowden Grove in Southaven Mississippi – World Series Host

Snowden Grove in Southaven Mississippi – World Series Host

Little league has often garnered an ugly name due to the large amount of politics involved. Politics have no place in a children’s game being played children. However, Dizzy Dean has dusted off their pants and are making baseball great fun for the thousands of youth who choose to play. Snowden Grove Park in Southaven Mississippi is hosting the World Series for eight, ten, twelve and fourteen year olds.

The rain that plagued the seven-year-old World Series last weekend has managed to stay at bat. That means that most games start and end right on time barring a huge crack of lightening or what seemed like an even larger wasps nest in one of the dug outs. The seventeen field complex is huge, broken into groups, A-D with five fields in each complex. When the final game ended on Sunday night, the walk back to the parking lot looked exhausting until one of the grounds crew loaded up the golf cart.

Absolutely, the joking plea for help was answered by the golf car driver “where are you parked?” Without ever looking back, this car had a passenger being escorted to the truck just out of pure courtesy. If it weren’t for the odd air conditioning with water mist unit in the main pavilion, that ride would definitely been one of the top benefits of the day. There is only one way to cull the heat and exhaustion of a full day at the ball park and Snowden Grove in Southaven, Mississippi has definitely got a bead on it.

You Get a Hit and I’ll Get a Hit Superman – World Series..8 year old style

Posted by Jerri Ann

You Get a Hit and I’ll Get a Hit Superman – World Series..8 year old style

Various onlookers gathered to watch as one of the top teams in 8 year old Dizzy Dean in Alabama were in the third inning and the other team was up by one. That opponent was up by one via a huge one inning crush. A pep talk by the coach before hitting the dug out with emphasis on “this things not over yet, don’t get down.” Moreover, this is the World Series and nothing is over until it is over.

The chant started, “you get a hit and I’ll get a hit Superman, you get a hit and I’ll get a hit babe, you get a hit and round those bases quick quick quick you get a hit and I’ll get a hit Superman”. The first batter bunted a ball foul on his third strike to start the inning off, fans, parents, coaches and players were getting frustrated. Another bunt and then the bats just seemed to liven up all on their own. Hitting the ball with enough force to at least create a stir of errors and some blooper base hits, these kids were back in it. That’s when it all happened at the World Series in Southaven, Mississippi for the Northport, Alabama Nationals 8 year old tournament.

This age group is allowed 7 runs or 3 outs per inning which ever comes first. The kids that were once down because of a bad defensive showing were now screaming and screeching at the top of their lungs. Another bunt and in the World Series play, the competition should make that an easy out at any base but instead, the pitcher threw the ball into right field. When play stopped, the kid who had bunted and crossed the plate for run number seven of that inning, the kids from Northport had a huge lead in Pool Play of the World Series.
