The moving performance of the evening was Joannie Rochette’s free skate program and the question whether or not she would be able to capture the bronze medal. With all of the pressure that this skater has been under since the untimely passing of her mother, many wondered if she would be able to complete her difficult program. She successfully completed her long program with just a minor misstep and skated with grace and beauty.

The surprise of the evening was the performance by 16-year-old Mirai Nagasu, who ended up in fourth place and almost was in bronze medal contention. Her performance was flawless, and she landed all of her jumps nearly perfect and finished well ahead of her teammate Rachael Flatt. Both of these skaters have been dubbed as the future of the United States Olympic figure skating team and performed much better than expected. As Kim Yu Na Olympics 2010 takes the gold medal, the pressures of the entire country of South Korea watching her performance can now be put to rest.

The match up between the United States and Canadian women’s hockey teams may be a tightly game. The US will be showcasing the talented goaltender, Jessie Vetter, who blocked 39/40 shots during the past two matches between the two countries and has a 2-2-1 record against Canada. Although the American team has a lot of momentum and is hungry for the gold medal, it is important to remember that Canada has won seven out of the last eight games against the United States in exhibition matches. With Canada playing on their home ice should be an exciting game between the two teams.

In other hockey news that Canadians resoundingly dropped the Russians in the semi final game with a score of 7 to 3, while the Americans had a tight game against the Swiss and the US finally scored two goals in the third period, one of which was an empty net shot. The win has put the United States into the semifinals and they will face Finland, which beat the Czech Republic 2-0.  All eyes tonight will be on the Olympic women’s figure skating long program, and the women’s hockey final, both events for gold medals.

Brian Westbrook To Continue to Play?

Brian Westbrook To Continue to Play in the NFL?

The question is whether a team will pick up Brian Westbrook to continue to play. Soon after his release by the Philadelphia Eagles, Brian Westbrook has stated that he will not be retiring from football and that he is planning on finding a team to continue his NFL career. As he thanked all of the Philly fans and his coach Andy Reid, he also stated that he has heard via his agent that several teams have made some initial contact about him playing in the 2010 season.

Brian Westbrook

Brian Westbrook was released on Tuesday, enabling the Eagles to save $1.5 million, citing that he only played eight games because of an ankle injury, and only scored two touchdowns last year. Westbrook has stated that he understands that many teams may not be interested in an aging running back, and also understands that the Eagles need to do this in order to make room for younger players that will require less salary. He is ranked second in career yardage for Philadelphia behind Wilbert Montgomery and his third with perceptions, trailing Harold Carmichael and Pete Retzlaff. He led the lake in total yards from scrimmage in 2007 having 2,104, accounting for over 36% of the total offense for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Philadelphia Eagles released the Pro Bowler, after his eight seasons, and no offer of a restructured deal or pay cut was put on the table for Westbrook to consider. He did state that he would be willing to play for a team even if it meant playing in a secondary role especially if it is for a potential Super Bowl team. There is also some speculation as to whether or not Donovan McNabb may be the next one on the chopping block. For Brian Westbrook to continue to play, we may see him in a Minnesota Vikings jersey as they are looking to add to their depth. Who knows, we may see recently released San Diego running back LaDainian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook playing together in 2010.

Joannie Rochette Short Program Performance

As Joannie Rochette completed her short program Tuesday night during the women’s figure skating event at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, you could see the pure emotion and sadness from the loss of her mother just two days ago. This Canadian skater was able to finish in third place after performing a clean program and scoring a personal best of 71.36. Rochette broke down at the end of her performance, while the audience gave her an emotional standing ovation. If you missed this performance, you can view the Joannie Rochette short program video. Joannie Rochette Short Program Performance

Not so surprising is the fact that South Korea’s Kim Yu Na is in first place, posting a 78.50, which is a new world record. She elegantly landed each of her jumps and seem to be flawless in her skating. Having to skate after Japan’s Mao Asada, who posted a season high 73.86 score, Kim Yuna did not seem to let the pressure affect her performance as she perfectly landed a triple Lutz, triple toeloop, as well as a triple flip, double Axel. Each of these women figure skaters earned high positive greats of execution.  Asada and Yu Na, both achieved high marks on their are looking for spins and their level for spiral sequences.

The American figure skaters, Rachael Flatt and Mirai Nagasu finished fifth and sixth respectively. This is perhaps the surprise of the evening, as they were not anticipated to be in any room contention. Both of the American skaters, achieved personal bests, although it will be extremely difficult for them to make up the more than nine points needed to overtake the gold medal favorite, Kim Yu Na. The women figure skaters will be back on the ice Thursday night for their final performances to determine the medal winners including Joannie Rochette Short Program Performance.

Highest Cricket Score Sachin 200

The record breaking highest score in ODI play did not stop with this as it was his 411th appearance by a batsman in ODI play. Tendulkar also holds the record for achieving the one day individual score and the highest one day score by a batsman. His double hundred is the first ever in the over forty year history of the one day tournament play. Sachin did all of this with complete mastery of the bat. He was calm, steady and kept his swing simple, which what he is known for.

Many had predicted that Tendulkar would be one of the first ones to achieve this historic one day individual score. Sachin has been flawless in his play for both the Tests and the ODI’s.  Several former teammates and coaches believed that it was only a matter of time before Sachin Tendulkar broke this record. For the 36 year old, this will be a day to remember and we will have to keep an eye on the cricket live score to see if he can break his own highest one day total. India’s biggest celebrity will have to come up with new disguises now as he is indeed the rock star of cricket.

In addition to this, he still has a pending case in the state of New York; he is facing a one-year sentence in New York City when he was charged with driving under the influence on January 5. Just to add to his legal troubles, on February 23, Jayson Williams’s wife filed for divorce based on physical and emotional abuse.
