Randall Cunningham: Son Drowns

Posted by Samantha Myers

Randall Cunningham: Son Drowns

Former UNLV star and and retired NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham has suffered the loss of a child.  Cunningham’s son, Christian Cunningham was only 2 1/2 years old and the hot tub in the backyard was just too much for him. Cunningham is the pastor in Las Vegas and routinely uses his hot tub to perform baptisms. Unfortunately, even a body of water the size of a hot tub is too large for a sprite 2 year old.

The sadness for Randall Cunningham and his family is overwhelming. While the drowning appears to be an accident, the pain will hang on forever. Apparently a woman was at the house with several children when she found Christian in the hot tub.  She removed him from the tub and immediately began CPR.

The call for paramedics was made around 4:30 PM on Tuesday evening.  The little boy was taken by paramedics to St. Rose Dominican Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Randall Cunningham and his immediate family will mourn the loss of their son and should have plenty of members in the community to lean on in this time of horror. The sadness for the family is overwhelming.

Baseball is full bloom around North America. From T-ball to the Collegiate World Series and beyond. Youngsters of all ages know what it means to play in the World Series. And for collegiate teams, the magic is in Rosenblatt Stadium.

Over the past several weeks, collegiate players have hit the field working their way to the grand finale in Omaha Nebraska. Rosenblatt Stadium on Tuesday night played host to its final College World Series. The stadium has held the series for 61 years. And with that, more than 23,000 fans filed in to witness the making of history.

As for the years coming up, the College World Series will remain Omaha, just not in Rosenblatt Stadium. The big tournament moves uptown to a new park. The new park, a $128 million dollar facility will be the place for baseball history to come. Go ahead and get in the mindset as the TD Ameritrade Park is going to be the home of baseball’s future.

Larsa Pippen and Scottie Win Again

Larsa Pippen and Scottie Win Again

Scottie Pippen was one of the greatest basketball players to go without getting what he deserved.  He was a major force on the Chicago Bulls in the day of Phil Jackson and Michael Jordan. But, he wasn’t Phil and he was not MJ and thus he took a lot of deals assuming that they would last. But unfortunately they didn’t.

Among other problems, Pippen purchased a $4 million jet in 2002.  When the jet was inspected, someone missed a read on the fact that the jet needed approximately one million dollars worth of repairs.  Scottie Pippen could have just took that as one more sign that his career was definitely over and he was financially in trouble. Instead, he sued his attorney and on Monday he was able to get a 2 million dollar settlement out of the deal.

Indeed, one of the best basketball players to every play the game may not have bee extremely business savvy when it came to gauging his worth for his basketball skills. And, Scottie Pippen might have played sidekick to Michael Jordan for way longer than he should have, but now, he has at least won this battle. Unfortunately for many basketball players, they never got to even be MJ’s sidekick and they certainly didn’t get this kind of settlement when they were down on their luck and practically broke.

Cedric Benson: Cincinnati Bengals

Posted by Ty Parker

It’s been almost a month since Cincinnati Bengal’s running back Cedric Benson punched a employee in a bar. And now, he has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault. The charges of assault with injury carries a maximum penalty of up to $4,000 in fines and he could spend a year in jail. What will the NFL do punish Benson?

Cedric Benson was arrested today and posted $5,000 bail. Once he had posted bail, he was released. This story originates from an argument that started in a bar in Austin.  Originally he was arguing with another customer who has remained un-named.

Once Cedric Benson was asked to leave the bar, he continued to push and shove and was then escorted out. He continued to rant and rave outside the bar telling folks that he was being kicked out by a group of “white boys”. According to Benson’s attorney, Benson is eager to explain his side of this story. However, Benson has chosen not to make his statement public just yet.

Tennis Star: Jennifer Capriati

Posted by Mike Jackson

The world of tennis continues to celebrate the likes of matches that take three days to complete, playing on clay and then grass and then anticipating a change once again. But, in the meantime, the world of tennis also sets up to deal with a tragedy within their own community. Jennifer Capriati was hospitalized after what seems to be an apparent overdose.  Capriati was at a Riviera Beach Hotel where the 911 call was made from.

Jennifer Capriati is 34 years old now and although she was a huge tennis icon in her teens, the world of tennis has seen less and less of her over the past few years. And, apparently she has suffered from some serious issues on and off the court since losing her status as a teenage tennis hero.  While on the court, she won 14 titles including three Grand Slams and a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics. Her battles off the court are very similar to that many child-celebrities experience as they grow out of their roles as superstars.

Jennifer Capriati made headlines back in 1994 when she was caught with marijuana. She has admitted in recent years that she suffers from depression. And, just like any other youngster losing her super star status, she appears to have been suicidal on many occasions. Capriati cited tennis as the glue that held her life together and now without it, she seems to be continuing to unravel.

Bubba Watson: PGA Tour Win Number 1

Posted by Mike Jackson

Bubba Watson wins his first every PGA Tour. For the first time in a while, a player is brought to tears over just such a win. Watson has made 122 starts on the tour so obviously, he was extremely emotional after the win. Watson came back from six strokes back and conquered a playoff as well.

Definitely it was time for someone to have a good win on the tour and hopefully turn the reputation of the PGA around. Bubba Watson made sure everyone knew that this was not an easy win. He birdied the 18th hole in the first playoff hole to remain tied with Scott Verplank. That hole took Corey Pavin out of the playoff and sent Watson and Verplank to playoff hole number 2.

The second playoff hole was the par three 16th and neither golfer was able to do much with their drive. Bubba Watson did get in a position to make his putt and Verplank missed the green entirely. Neither of these guys were leading when the day started.  However, leading when the day ended is way more important.

Frank Shamrock: UFC Retires

Frank Shamrock: UFC Retires

Last night as Fedor lost in a surprisingly quick Mixed Martial Arts fight at the HP Pavilion in California, Frank Shamrock announced his plans to retire. Shamrock is a four time defending champion and remains undefeated. With a 7th degree black belt in a sport known to the fight world as Submission Fighting, Shamrock is calling it quits. It is impossible to ring up all the great fights that Shamrock has been a part of in his career.

Frank Shamrock has defended his title four times. In addition to other accolades, Shamrock is known for a monstrous battle with Igor Zinoviev in 1998. That fight ended in a knockout and still 12 years later it is known as the most violent slam in the UFC. Shamrock entered a micro-retirement in 1999 and put his skills as an actor to the test.

Apparently Frank Shamrock wasn’t as successful as an actor as he was as a UFC fighter. He returned to fight again in 2001. He managed to pull off some great fights during that time and then in 2009 he was beat by a Nick Diaz. He still lives is San Jose, California with his family and many wonder if he will attempt to make a name for himself as an actor again.
